This is an important piece of news for classical music enthusiasts in Europe. On Saturday, May 5th, Jimena residents will be offering the European premiere of a piece of music written in 1979 by Joaquín Rodrigo (1901-1999), the composer of the internationally famous Concierto de Aranjuez, possibly the best known piece of Spanish music. Titled Como una Fantasía, the piece will be performed as part of a recital by Jimena resident Michael Jones, who is a cellist of international repute. Local Olympics this weekend
JIMENA London isn't the only venue for Olympics this year. Jimena has its own version this weekend, tomorrow, Saturday, all day from 10am to 7pm (with a break for lunch, surely) - no doubt scheduled so that it wouldn't clash with its British counterpart. There may not be any land speed records broken, or high jump jinks, but it is certain to be a lot of fun. The 'sports' include pádel, petanque, badminton, ping-pong (sorry, table tennis), indoor football, tennis, children's games, belly dancing exhibition, rhythmic gymnastics (by the prize-winning team from Tesorillo) and a lot more. Fun available for all ages - plus a bar and tapas.
Patio sale on Tuesday, May 1
JIMENA Monica and Guy are having a patio sale at Monica's El Antiguo Juzgado, San Sebastián 15 (by the main square) between 11am and 2pm on Tuesday next, May 1. As the poster says, household and garden items, DVDs, glasses and tableware will be on sale. (It's also a good moment to get to see this lovely house that could be just the right special place to put up your summer guests if you don't have the room yourself. Just an idea...)

If you read our piece on CampoPulse titled What do Miguel de Cervantes, William Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega have in Common?, you will have an idea what this is item is about. The primary school children are having a series of events tomorrow, Friday 20th, all related to books and reading. There will be activity on the main square (Plaza de la Constitución, El Paseo) as from about 11 am (Starting at about 4pm, Yours Truly has been asked to read something - so you might want to miss that part...) It is usually a lot of fun for the kids, so let's hope the rain keeps off long enough ... See you there!
