JIMENA (Agencies) The Guardia Civil reports that a man was arrested and is charged with exhibitionism and of sexual abuse against two minors. There is as yet no information about when and where, except to say that it happened in Jimena and in the street. Allegedly, the man accosted the girls and asked them for sexual favours in exchange for money. When they refused, he supposedly exposed himself to them. He allegedly grabbed one of them by the arm but she managed to get away and called the emergency services. By their description, the man was identified and is now 'at the disposal of the courts'.

Robbery incidents on the increase?
JIMENA We were told this morning that a lady who lives out in the campo had visitors earlier in the day. Apparently, they were in a white van and took something from her front yard. She was there but was unable to get the van's number plate down before they disappeared. This incident was not yet reported to the police (Guardia Civil 956 640 009; Policía Local 956 640 064), as we were able to ascertain a few minutes ago These kind of incidents are on the increase, if news reports are to be believed. As we have warned in the past, the good times are over: you can't leave your door unlocked any more, alas. But any such incidents needs to be reported, and not just for insurance purposes: the more such denuncias, the better policing we should expect.

Four arrested for stealing sheep, transporting them in a car and throwing them out during chase
JIMENA (Press release) Four people were arrested by the Guardia Civil early yesterday morning for allegedly stealing several sheep from a farm in the municipality, transport them in a car and, on seeing they were being stopped, throwing the animals out of the car against the officers' vehicle during a high speed chase. The incident began when the GC saw a vehicle getting onto the A-405 with illegal manouvres. They tried to stop it but couldn't and a pursuit ensued. During the chase, the car drove onto the opposite side of the road several times and, suddenly, the occupants threw several sheep out of the window towards the Guardia vehicle, one of which hit it the bonnet. Once the vehicle had been stopped, the GC requested help from the Local Police to check the place where the sheep had been thrown out and remove the animals if necessary. Further investigation of the car elicited another sheep in the boot. The four occupants are now accused of severe disobedience to the authorities, animal abuse and robbery with force.

JIMENA (Agencies) The nature protection unit of the Guardia Civil, SEPRONA, last Sunday confiscated eight stag heads at a shoot in Jimena de la Frontera. The stags had been shot shortly before the Guardia intervened as part of the usual control operations carried out during the hunting season. The hunters had permits that allowed them to shoot females and young deer, as there is a considerable over population in the area at present, but not males. The hunters will be taken to court.

Environmental crime in Jimena
Illegally felled trees |
JIMENA An interested reader, Andrés Rebolledo Barreno, sent these photos to TioJimeno (see the web album here) to denounce what he considers a crime against the environment that took place in the area known as Viña Rodrigo. You are not allowed to chop down cork oaks without considerable hassle. Among other things, Andrés says that this whole thing 'smells vary badly' because it is neither part of the original plan, nor have any permits or licenses been obtained. The significant number of trees that were chopped down during the Christmas holidays, when presumably the authorities 'were on holiday'. It all points to governmental negligence, he adds. And, Andrés also says that he is saddened by the reaction -or rather, the non-reaction- of the people of Estación and Jimena in general, who have shown 'indifference and apathy' about such a crime.

Julián Muñoz and Del Nido get seven and a half years in prison
![]() |
José María del Nido |
MARBELLA (Agencies) The former mayor of Marbella, Julián Muñoz, was sentenced yesterday to seven and a half years in jail for his part in the Minutas case, an spin-off of the Malaya case, Spain's largest. The judge also sentenced the President of Sevilla Football Club, José María del Nido, to the same time in jail - plus payment of €3,058,505 and €2.7 million respectively, and are barred from public office for 15 years. The alleged head of the Malaya case, also involved in this one, Juan Antonio Roca, got 4 years in jail. The case arises from a systematic 'decapitalization' of the Marbella treasury, called Minutas because this is another word for bills, as presented by lawyers (Del Nido is one), but which in this case were presented between 1999 and 2003, but no legal work done for them. The case can be appealed to the Supreme Court but there is no news that they will be.

Jimena is changing ...
JIMENA We received the following by e-mail this morning: "Things are changing here, probably due to the financial crisis. Firstly, we have a bougainvillea stolen from outside our front door one evening, just the plant about 2 meters tall - but they left the pot ! Then we left a couple of empty gas bottles (best referred to as bombonas) outside the front door, ready for the gas lorry. Went out a bit later to check and one had gone! Anybody else getting this problem with annoying very petty crime? Anonymous" We don't normally publish an anonymous e-mail but this one, which carried an identification, is IMPORTANT: the only way crime, however petty, is going to be even minimally controlled is by making a denuncia at the Guardia Civil station.

Illegal hunting has always existed in the area, but is on the increase
![]() |
(Illustration only) |
CAMPO DE GIBRALTAR Unemployment and families in financial crises are often given as the reason behind illegal hunting in this area (and probably everywhere else). But it has always existed, with poverty as the excuse. The cazador furtivo ('furtive hunter' - we like the name, though not what it means in real terms) is one who hunts out of season, usually but not always at night, on supposedly protected or private land, with neither a hunting licence nor one for the gun, etc. Just a week or so ago, one of them, a man from Jimena, was caught in Castellar shooting a pregnant female deer. Worse, he shot her having previously caught her in an equally illegal trap - he is facing charges and could (should) go to prison. Two more men were caught a couple of days later in the forest at La Almoraima, hunting illegally. Another one last week - and so it goes on. We sometimes get offered a 'nice piece of venison' at an excellent price - we never buy it because chances are the animal was killed illegally and there is no need to encourage the practice. This time of year, there's a lot of it about, so watch out for someone offering meat as if he was offering dirty postcards.

Wife beater arrested in Jimena
JIMENA A man was arrested on Monday and is charged with domestic violence. The incident occurred around midday on Monday, according to witnesses. The couple, of Romanian origin, have been known to have frequent shouting matches, heard loudly by their neighbours on Calle San Sebastián. This time, however, things evidently got out of hand, for the woman, who was seen lying bleeding on the floor, was taken to hospital by ambulance and the man driven away in the back of a Guardia Civil vehicle. There is as yet no official notification of the incident, so we have no notice of the woman's condition or confirmation of the incident from the police. UPDATE: The woman is back in Jimena today, and, according to our sources, it seems she is not pressing charges.

Man arrested for scratching three cars
(Illustration only) |
JIMENA (Agencies) The Guardia Civil arrested a man last Sunday for allegedly being the perpetrator of scratches on three cars. The first denuncia was made in July, followed by two more this month from different car owners on the same street in the same spot. Observation elicited that the marks on all three vehicles looked much the same and were probably made by the same instrument, which was probably a stone. Further investigation led the Guardia Civil to the conclusion that the same person waited until a car parked in front of his house, waited for the driver to leave and then proceeded to come out of his home, pick up a stone and scratch the car all over, causing damage to all sides of the vehicles. It is estimated that the damage to each vehicle amounts to €1,000.

Jimena man arrested for allegedly stealing manhole covers
![]() |
(Photo: Guardia Civil) |
JIMENA (Agencies) Members of the Guardia Civil unit in Jimena saw the Citroen Berlingo looking very sunken at the rear. As they were preparing to stop the vehicle, it swerved to the left and tried to run away. A few meters down the road (the A-405, within the municipality) they managed to stop it without too much difficulty. In the rear were 16 iron manhole covers that the driver said he had found at an abandoned construction site. C. G. B., 19 and from Jimena, has a long history of petty crime. He was taken into custody under suspicion of theft and will be 'at the disposal of the court' on Monday.
