Jimena mushroom market beats record

JIMENA The municipal mushroom market (lonja micológica) beat its own record of kilos sold in a single day.  Some 1,480 kilos of various types of mushroom, but mainly chantarelle (photo) were sold on Friday last, a figure similar to other days in a season that promises to be one of the best in history. The average price for a kilo of chantarelles is €6.5 though it fluctuates according to quality and cleanliness. Some €10,000 have been paid out daily among collectors, who bring in their daily harvest. Councillor for the Environment Fernando Gómez, says, "This is a real boon for Jimena just when it is most needed."
