JIMENA (Photo: www.buceite.com) Juan Carlos Ocaña Muñoz is to be the new Director of the Municipal Band, which has been leaderless and unrehearsed since June, when the previous Director, María Jesús Herrero, left because she had not been paid for some time, according to unconfirmed reports. Ocaña, who is presently Director of the Amigos de la Música Orchestra in Algeciras will be working with Paul Rey, formerly Director of the Royal Marine Band of Gibraltar, as well as its first trombone. The new leadership will be getting down to work soon: >try outs for a spot in the band will be taking place throughout December, and rehearsals are scheduled, starting in January, for Fridays from 4 to 8pm at the Casa de la Cultura in the village, opposite the Town Hall. Meanwhile, the Council will finance remuneration to the leaders and will lend one instrument to each member, if possible and necessary. Financing is assured for the year thanks to it being included among subsdised projects under the Plan E employment scheme.
The band's organization, or club, will be in charge of charging members for their fees, as well as managing monies taken for any paid private or public perfomances that emerge, other than those coming from the Town Hall.
