Google privacy policy changes to reveal all about you

It's been there for a while so we have to apologize for not bringing you this earlier (we -that is, Prospero- can't be everywhere at all times!). Still one of the best articles we found on the subject of Google's new privacy policy changes (there are thousands) comes from ZDNet (UK Edition) Google: No opt-out of mix-and-match data, which is dated on January 25. Since then, there have been many more. Given that the change date is March 1st (that's the day after tomorrow!) the Daily Mail online chooses (as usual) to put the wind up everyone with 'Google will know more about you than your partner': Uproar as search giant reveals privacy policy that will allow them to track you on all their products. Typical. In any case it's worth looking at the comments on that one. Another article on ZDNet (US Edition), though, is titled Google's new privacy rules: get over it already. We're no experts at all and rely on big friendly people to help us out with even the most basic tech stuff, but we have taken precautions and did what we described below - but please don't blame us if they don't work!>>>

E-mail security helps us all

As you might imagine, we get a large number of e-mails at several addresses, from all over the world. Many contain funny stuff, inspirational stuff and, principally, a lot of just plain stuff. But then, do you enjoy reading funny emails from friends? Are you tempted  to forward them to your other friends? Then we strongly recommend you read this carefully as a matter of security, yours and others'.  There is information left over from the people who got the message before you, namely their e-mail addresses and names. As the messages get forwarded along, the list of addresses builds, and builds, and builds, and all it takes is for one of them to get a virus, and his or her computer can send that virus to every e-mail address that has come across his computer. Or someone can take all of those addresses and sell them or send junk mail, or even try to apply for a credit card in your name. How can you save yourself and your friends from all this trouble?>

Junta and local administrations, a touch away

(Agencies) Town Halls throughout the Campo de Gibraltar will soon have a new feature in the lobby. Diputación de Cádiz, through the Junta's Department of Innovation, is installing touch-screen computers that will allow easy access to information such as official bulletins (BOP, Boletín Oficial de la Provincia), general information and a calendar of payments for all taxes. Eventually payment will be allowed on these computers as well, accessed with the new electronic DNI (national identity document) card. The project is already functional in 28 municipalities with less than 20,000 inhabitants and will be expnding both in numbers and services offered. Diputación already offers small municipalities such services as web hosting, e-mail, data bases and registration, among others.

Are you having problems with Hotmail?

If you Google 'problems with hotmail' you'll get over 95 million results; 'problems with hotmail today' elicits over 22 million. Not many are dated this very day, most results go back several years. Why do we mention it? Because over the last week or so we've had several local reports that say we have been sent comments, e-mails or photos and we have not received them; nor have several e-mails we sent to Hotmail accounts been received. All of them would have come from a Hotmail account if there weren't a problem. We're trying to find out what the problem is, whether it's global, European or local.
