E-mail security helps us all

As you might imagine, we get a large number of e-mails at several addresses, from all over the world. Many contain funny stuff, inspirational stuff and, principally, a lot of just plain stuff. But then, do you enjoy reading funny emails from friends? Are you tempted  to forward them to your other friends? Then we strongly recommend you read this carefully as a matter of security, yours and others'.  There is information left over from the people who got the message before you, namely their e-mail addresses and names. As the messages get forwarded along, the list of addresses builds, and builds, and builds, and all it takes is for one of them to get a virus, and his or her computer can send that virus to every e-mail address that has come across his computer. Or someone can take all of those addresses and sell them or send junk mail, or even try to apply for a credit card in your name. How can you save yourself and your friends from all this trouble?>

FIFA World Cup malware spreads malicious PDF files

ZDNet/SECURITY
As might be expected, there are reports of a targeted malware campaign using a FIFA World Cup  2010 theme that attempts to trick end users into executing a malicious PDF file that exploits a recently patched flaw in Adobe Reader. If you enlarge the image you will see that the attackers have downloaded Greenlife's PDF document and changed it to include malicious code. They then attempted to email the malicious PDF to a user in a major international organisation that brings together governments from all over the world. Read the whole story -and what to do about it- here. (Malware is defined as: a collective term for all types of damaging software such as Trojans, Spyware or Viruses.) Internet problems for days and days ...

We have to admit we're lucky today in that we haven't had any Internet problems. However, according to them who know, 'a hub' must be down somewhere. If you call the Telefónica number you will get a message saying that, indeed, there are problems 'in your area' andthat they 'will be fixed as soon as possible. In the meantime, cash machines and bank computers are non-functional, as iare the connections for many private users. This usually happens when it rains, but it hasn't lately, has it?
