PA proposes high-end geriatric centre for Jimena

JIMENA (Agencies) The local secretary of the Partido Andalucista, José Antonio Castilla, said yesterday that he knew of a proposal for the construction of a high-end geriatric centre for Jimena, which could generate some 200 direct and indirect jobs. He intends to present the project -linked to parcels 1 and 2 at Las Tenerías - that includes four clearly differentiated green areas, as well as a hotel complex and all the equipment and accessories associated to a geriatric centre. Castilla says the interested party he knows about is German, which could in turn generate pension-age tourism from Germany. He will ask the Council to provide location facilities, basic German lessons and its intervention with the Los Alcornocales Nature Park authorities so that it can be declared an area of 'public interest'. While the interest in a Jimena location, says Castilla, stems from its closeness to golf courses, equestrian facilities, our benign climate and local gastronomy, the plans are for a project heavily linked to the environment, with the architecture blending in with the surroundings.

Film casting for extras

(BY E-MAIL) A film producer friend of this site sent us an e-mail saying that his company will be casting soon (no set date as yet) extras for an ongoing project involving the area of La Línea and Algeciras and shooting in April. They need extras, men and women of all ages with a variety of profiles, preferably of the 1980s (no modern hair cuts!). Within this group they also need men of an 'international' look, British, Irish, French and Moroccan. That, and Men of  'strong and/or athletic complexion'. Although they'll be needing people of a variety of ages, including youngsters of about 16 and a few kids of between 4 and 11, the majority chosen will be between 30 and 60. Details below>>>

100 people to benefit from Proteja employment scheme courses

JIMENA (Press release) Mayor Pascual Collado held a meeting recently with the head of the Fundación Pública Andaluza de Fondo de Formación y Empleo (FAFFE), Fernando Guillén, and the provincial delegate  for Education, Juan Bouza, during which an agreement was signed regarding several employment courses to be held in Jimena, via the Proteja Plan (Programa de Transición al Empleo de la Junta de Andalucía), which will give employment to about 100 people of the village. The courses will last for about three months, for 6 hours a day, with a grant of €536 per month per attendant, and scheduled to start in a few weeks' time.

Jimena and Castellar receive €115,902 from municipal employment plan

JIMENA/CASTELLAR (Press release/Photo: file) Some thirty mayors, among whom were those of Jimena, Castellar an Tarifa, recently subscribed to the 2nd Plan de Ayuda Municipal al Empleo with Diputación Provincial de Cádiz. This refers to the renewal of the first such plan that is still current. Jimena is to receive €83,331 in 2011, and Castellar €32,571. Thus, some 40 people will have employment under the plan, which starts next month. 80% of the amount will go to contracting workers, the remaining 20% to purchase of material needed for repair or rehabilitation of public roads and/or buildings. Castellar has employed 37 workers under the scheme, with two-month contracts for plumbers, albañiles, gardeners and painters. (This item is also published on CampoPulse)

A new phase for the old grain silo at the entrance to Jimena

(Source: press release) A new phase began last week for the (apparently endless) renovation of the old silo at the entrance to Jimena village (photo: JP file). The building that was once used as a grain silo for the area is being turned into an 'ethnographic centre', as well as a tourist information centre for the village and Los Alcornocales Nature Park. This phase involves plumbing and wiring and is to be carried out by (yet another, nevertheless welcome) employment scheme, with a total budget of €199,588, aimed at giving work to those formerly working in the construction industry, and also to what are called 'rural workers'. The building has been renovated keeping the old grain conduits, presumably aspart of an eventual museum or suchlike.

Sods get laid on Avenida de los Deportes

Members of the Jimena Histórica Employment Scheme were this morning laying new sods of grass on the distinctly bare patches along the pavement opposite the municipal swimming pool on Avenida de los Deportes. According to Councillor Fernando Gómez, "Little by little we are making use of the resources as they become available, this time making improvements to this avenue, which is fast becoming the town's shopping centre." This work may or may not be influenced by a reader's complaint on TioJimeno about the look of that area. In any case, it is being done just in time to be watered by the expected rain. Let's hope the new grass is respected by animals and, particularly, humans alike. (Note: We apologise for the headline, we just couldn't help it.)

A factory for Jimena at last!

Factory (Agencies) Japanese multinational Naghaksake Corporation announced last week at a press conference in Tokyo that it will begin building a new factory in Spain in the New Year. The site chosen is in the municipality of Jimena de la Frontera! So far we have been unable to contact anyone at the Council to confirm this report (it is holiday season). However, it would seem likely that the site could be at the abandoned golf course in San Pablo or possibly at the as yet non-existent industrial estate at Barría, once the choice for an airport. Naghaksake spokesperson Itseki Nakamura did not specify when building would begin, though he did say that it is expected to provide employment for a significant number of local residents.>
