August Feria to have floats after all

A Town Hall press release tells us that this year's feria will have floats after all. It had been announced earlier that the Queen of the Fair and her cortege would have to walk instead of the traditional ride on the floats. This gave rise to an appeal from the Queen's mother, Sue Haddon (yes, she likes being called the Queen Mother), because it had been mooted that there was not enough money for the floats. However, the head of the Festivities Department, Councillor Jesús  Rodríguez, issued a statement recently, announcing that the floats would be made available. The release appeared to blame the state of Jimena's main road, Calle Sevilla, down which the floats floated. But there's more to this story ... read on>
Having finished an (upcoming) interview with this year's Majesty, Prospero was having dinner with the Queen Mother, the Queen herself and the Queen's Consort, discussing the Town Hall's poverty and the consequent decision not to provide the traditional floats, nor even any kind of help with the (expensive) dresses, when Her Majesty's (the younger one, Laura) phone rang.

It was a call from Tesorillo, where Laura works, and on the other end was a PP councillor telling her that they, the opposition party, would provide the floats this year - but to please keep it very quiet. The smile on Laura's face would have illuminated the village, for, as had become clear in the interview, her dream as a child had been to sit on the float, right at the top.

The councillor had asked her for the phone number of the rest of the girls, but Our Majesty was only able to provide one - with the advice that this girl would tell everyone. Indeed she did.

Within minutes, Laura received a call from Councillor Rodríguez (PSOE), telling her that there would be floats - provided by the Council, and not by the opposition party in Tesorillo. Laura shrugged, "As long as there are floats, I don't care who they come from!"

One has to wonder why it has been necessary to worry this year's elected Queen and Cortege. Why did they have to be in the middle of a childish push-me-pull-you between the governing and opposition parties?

Is it a coincidence that the press release from the Council came the day after Councillor Rodríguez heard that the PP was about to show him/them up by providing the floats?

Isn't it about time that our politicians grew up?

The councillors will never grow up. At last there will be floats.
Well done to the Queen and the Queen Mother. It would have been a very sad day if the parade would have to walked. Hope there are sweeties for the children provided

Laura has already said that,if necessary, she and her Consort will pay for the sweets themselves....hopefully,she wont have to as the Banks will show THEIR true colours and back the Feria,as always.......it would be a shame for the children of the town to miss out on this little tradition!
