'Jimena, where the mushroom was king'

Sancho's Tilting at Windmills blog yesterday touched on a problem in Jimena: the closure -supposedly temporary but lasting all too long- of the lonja micológica, or mushroom market, where collectors could sell their setas at decent prices. What he doesn't add is that the recession has forced many people lacking experience into the hills to try to make ends meet. The lonja micólogica, says Sancho, was 'launched with much fanfare' several years ago. Yes, we remember, even when it re-opened in December 2008.
