Today is World Consumer Day

JIMENA (Press release) Given the significance of this day, the municipal Consumer Department headed by Councillor Juana Jiménez, invites residents to make use of the resources available at municipal level regarding the rights of consumers. There is an information service that has been attending to complaints for a number of years at the Reina Sofía Cultural Centre in Los Ángeles, which works in cooperation with the Unión de Consumidores de Andalucía (UCE-Cádiz, or Consumers' Union in the province of Cádiz). This is where several hundred people>
received information and advice on their rights, when Endesa decided to hike their prices and read the meters every other month, which caused innumerable complications in as many households. The municipal department has also offered lectures, workshops and information campaigns on the subject. UCE-Cádiz recently pointed to this office as one of the most active in the province. "It is very important that residents know their rights as consumers and make them stand up to possible abuse or failure to deliver by business or public administrations," says Jiménez.
