Jimena Council's Department of Environment is to begin its annual campaign advising owners of empty plots and neglected buildings of their obligations to maintain and keep them clean, as a fire precaution. The proprietors whose properties are on the Council's list will soon be receiving letters to that effect. Should these obligations be ignored, they will be carried out by the Council and charged via judicial proceedings. The objective every year is to avoid possible fires and the presence of rodents and insects. Given the amount of rain last winter, weeds have grown to unusual proportions in many of the unbuilt plots, so the problems with dry undergrowth could be worse unless action is taken now.
