José Regueira, Adoptive Son of Jimena
The highest honour a municipality can give anyone not born within its confines, Hijo Adoptivo, was bestowed this morning on José Regueira Ramos at a ceremony that contained a large dose of emotion. The honour came about for almost fifty years of dedication to his adopted home, Jimena de la Frontera. Not only was Regueira the single pharmacist in town for many years but he was a founding member of the Instituto de Estudios Campogibraltareños, a publisher of books on the village and the area, the Campo de Gibraltar and the Province of Cádiz, but he was named Official Chronicler of Jimena as well. (Watch this space for a personal appreciation of Pepe Regueira and his family by Prospero coming soon.)
