Arrastre de Latas, or 'dragging the tins for the Three Kings'

Children got up early this morning and with last minute details done, headed for the Llano de la Victoria for the arrastre de latas (‘tin can drag’), where they joined well over a hundred friends in an attempt to waken the Three Wise Men and remind them that they, too, deserved some presents tonight.

They listened as attentively as possible over the growing din, to a story about giants and ogres and, of course, the Reyes Magos (Magic Kings, or Magi).

Then they set out happily towards the top of Calle Sevilla to come down the main street on their way to El Paseo… They took over the entire street all the way down, with traffic diverted into side streets. Drivers caught in the middle looked happy as they watched them go by, though many of them covered their ears…

As they rounded the corner into the square, they found everything ready for them, including recycling bins, which they were happy to put to good use, as long as they met their objective of making as much noise as possible. You can hear the noise on video on TioJimeno: click here.

As we write, they are enjoying a free sandwich and a drink, plus entertainment, on the square, so we’ll be back with more…
