Carnival programme - all you wanted to know and more

Carnival is chaos. That you knew but we thought you might need reminding. Below is the official events programme but you can expect other things to go on 'privately' (not on the official programme, silly!) and possibly 'publicly' (we should hope not!). In any case, and as we have said many times before, you can get a much more thorough grounding in what CARNAVAL is in Jimena, and most of the province of Cádiz and Southern Spain, by clicking here to go to TioJimeno, who is a stalwart carnavalero together with several of his team. Just type in the word 'carnaval' and you'll get everything and more about it. We have set up a link for this item on the sidebar. Programme:>>>

OFFICIAL CARNAVAL PROGRAMME

Friday, Feb 24

10.30pm - Official opening with pregón (announcement) by Amigos del Baile (Friends of Dance)
11.00pm - Local carnival groups onstage: Chirigota Que te gusta que te toquen; Cuarteto Rosco Di-vino; Chirigota Con la trampa a cuesta; Chrigota Misión Imposible

Saturday, Feb 25

4pm - Children's Carnival, including the San Pablo kids' chirigota group; Games and Entertainment by the 'Mirador Joven' association; Merienda (kids' food) for all participants
10.30pm - Dancing and costume competition, with live music by Trío Aquabel. Prizes for best costumes.
Be warned: people in costumes -some of them truly creative- wander the streets and the bars most of the     night, so you could find yourself talking to a complete stranger who knows more about you than you think - or else it's someone you know well but haven't a clue who they are at the moment.

Sunday, Feb 26
Plaza Llano de la Victoria
5pm - Local and invited groups onstage
Later - they come down to the Carnival Marquee
