What is this?

JIMENA "Come here, I want to show you something," said our friend, as if imparting a state secret. He took us round to a wall-full of plants at the edge of the car park by the side of his restaurant and showed us this ... thing. It is vegetation, we can vouch. But that's it. It looks like a giant spider's web but isn't. It threatens to cover all the lovely flowers in the planters. Any ideas? (Another pic below)
UPDATE: (from CraftyPip) This is the Dodder parasitic weed and is very invasive and will destroy your plants . In the USA it is considered a real problem and is one of their top 10 unwanted weeds. My recommendation, if possible, is to cut out and destroy the infected plant or part thereof.
