Old Instituto gets needed repairs

Many of our readers will be unaware that the Instituto (senior school) in Jimena used to be at the top of the village, behind the La Victoria church. The building has been used for all sorts of other purposes since the school moved down to its present site. Nearly 20 years ago it was used as a centre to house groups of British youth who came to Jimena on their last leg of rehab, and helped out with various construction jobs for the Council in return. It has more recently been the centre for various employment schemes and programmes. One of these has been doing some work on the building, which has always had problems with its flat roof. Aside from attending to that problem, they have been giving it a good 'shock treatment', particularly on the upper floors, which are to get new doors and windows, as well as new wiring, plumbing, etc. This work will be completed by subsequent employment schemes.
