Jimena storm losses amount to over €1,5million so far

Jimena Mayor Pascual Collado said on Tuesday that recent storms had caused some €1,134,000 in losses to the fruit growing sector, plus €600,000 that are needed to recondition the roads that run parallel to the Guadiaro and Hozgarganta rivers. Some 6 million kilos of oranges and lemons had been lost, as well as some 12,000 employment days.  These figures do not include damage to the larger orange groves in San Martín del Tesorillo, or to other plantations such as the avocado. Collado added that the government had "more than enough data" to declare the area a zona catastrófica. More bad weather is expected this coming week.
