Reflection of my home, by Phil Heinzl

Not long ago we featured a series of photos by Gonzalo Polo under the title Reflections of Jimena. It's Monday morning, I feel lonely

Phil Heinzl, our photographer extraordinaire has done it again. He sent in this picture that illustrates the Monday Morning Feeling he has illustrated in the past (here and here, for instance). To us, this one has the added poignancy of loneliness. Like "Where's everyone gone?" or "Is it just me that feels like this?" Heck, you know the feeling...

Jimena artist to hold exhibition in San Roque

Juan Soler, who lives in Jimena and works all over the place, has been invited to hold an exhibition of his paintings at the Sala Joven Rooms at the Diego Salinas Building in San Roque (right next to the new Town Hall, sightly downhill from the main square). Titled Las pieles del poeta (The Poet's Skins), the exhibition will be inaugurated on Tuesday November 2 and remain open until the 12th. Born in La Línea de la Concepción in 1966, Juan Antonio Soler is a painter, sculptor, writer, graphic designer and photographer, among a lot of other things. Artist Rod Stokes offers a course in Figure and Portrait Drawing

Well-known artist and Jimena resident Roderic Stokes announces this year's art course in Figure and Portrait Drawing. Starting in October and running through November and December, the 12-week course is to be held on Saturdays from 10.30 to 12 noon at the Reina Sofía Cultural Centre in Estación (or Los Ángeles). Rod, who has lived in Jimena since 2001, is both painter and sculptor and has worked in a variety of art fields, from fine art to contemporary three-dimensional design. His studio down by the Hozgarganta river is where he has been working since arriving in Jimena after a lifetime of travel and teaching. (See other local artists on our partner site JimenArte.)

Just a little confusion sorted

The image shows an item published on December 28, 2007, Spain's equivalent to April Fool's Day. It apparently threw a good friend into some confusion when she googled (yes, it's a verb now) 'jimenapulse' (She commented there: I am sorry about this , but if nobody pays Alberto for all his hard work, what do we expect? for which we thank her.) Alas, Google has yet to register the fact that JimenaPulse is now published exclusively on Blogger, as opposed to WordPress, where we used to be. If we close down the WP, we would lose some if not all our partner sites such as Jimena Property Listings, JimenArte and JimenaLinks. We are working to transfer these and update them, and others, but it takes time we don't seem to have...

Not just a pretty face!

At the considerable risk of becoming a highly specialised site (come to think of it, it might be more lucrative), we have acceeded to our friend Phil Heinzl's request for information on this pretty little insect, of which more photos below, including a highly scientific one. Below you will also see his e-mail to us, which is illustrative of Phil's ongoing quest for knowledge. The fact that he spends so much time taking photos of bugs and frogs and dogs and rainbows and lightning is probably illustrative of a certain imbalance, something his lovely wife Yvonne might confirm. Butterflies flutter by...

... and our regular contributor, photographer, film maker and friend Phillip Heinzl captures this Two Tailed Pasha on a strawberry tree (arbutus unedo, or Madroño in Spanish) in his garden. It really is a spectacular photo that you can enlarge when clicking on it. Bees are back

(By e-mail, Thank you, Phil) "Attached is something which turned up in our garden for the first time since we have been here.  Blink and you would miss it as it is so small, being only 1cm in diameter. We have identified it as the bumblebee orchid (Ophrys bombyliflora) and it isn´t that common but by no means a rarity. We rescued this one from the lawn mower, but have found a whole colony of them. I suppose they should be known as a "bee´s nest of orchids"....bad eh!" Click on the photo to get the detail.
