Pronouncing Spanish - starting from the beginning

In October last year we started a series that was titled Pronouncing Spanish - start at the beginning. This will probably be useful to the Spanish conversation classes now being held at Casa Henrietta (call Alberto on 685 298 820 for more info - there are a couple of slots left!). It makes clear that the alphabet is similar in both languages (the other being English, cara Signora), with the exception of the famous Ñ, which is unique to Spain. And, as opposed to English but making Spanish that much easier, there is only one way to pronounce the vowels (A, E, I, O, U), no matter what comes before or after (there are a couple of minimal exceptions). We will soon be putting up a widget link to the series, so watch this space.

JimenaPulse series

We're updating our series. What's that? we hear you ask ... In the early days of JimenaPulse we had time to write a few in-depths items that delved into such things of local interest as Living and Dying in Southern Spain, It's Choreetho not Choritso, Health Care in Jimena and How Did That Cork Get in Your Bottle? As we said, we're updating the information in the series, which also means we're re-designing each one, creating sidebar widgets , re-locating each item to a new address and so on. This takes time, as does the creation of a series from scratch. If you have a suggestion on another item, please let us know and we'll find the time to write and illustrate it (click on the word comments below).

German TV series filming at the castle

(From Council website) Jimena castle is being used to shoot scenes for a televison series by Action Concept, a German production company specializing in action series, some of which have appeared on Spanish TV. The series containing the chapter being filmed at the castle is based on fantasy and parapsychology. Filming will continue until next Thursday, after which the team will head for Sancti Petri to continue shooting. (Photo from the series Cobra Alert, via TioJimeno.)
Jimena and its surroundings have often been used for this purpose, ranging from entire TV series and films, to commercials and documentaies. (Prospero note: Shouldn't the Council think of setting up a Jimena Film Commission or something? It would bring work and tourism.)
