Feria: kids' rides open tomorrow at reduced prices

JIMENA The children's rides at this year's Feria de Mayo - setting up as we write behind and around the sports pavilion - will be opening tomorrow evening at very reduced prices: only €1.50. This is thanks to an arrangement by the Council's Concejalía de Festejos with the ride operators.

Feria de Mayo programme out at last, but no dog show

JIMENA This year's Feria de Mayo, starting on Friday afternoon (See full programme below), that's the day after tomorrow, is without it's traditional dog show, alas. It had previously been announced that the cost of the feria would be heavily reduced and now we know how. Instead, there is a Medieval Market scheduled to open on Friday, located at the fairgrounds, which are in, around, behind, in front and possibly on top of the sports pavilion. This year also includes a large variety of equestrian activity that is detailed in with all the rest of things going on below.>>>

FERIA DE MAYO PROGRAMME IN ENGLISH

As promised, below, is the full programme for the Feria de Mayo 2011 in ENGLISH, thanks to TranslationHELP, our very own translating enterprise that is moving soon and in full to the offices just around the corner from the Post Office (Correos) in Jimena (956 648 169 or 685 298 820) and ready to help you with anything related to Spanish, such as hospital/medical/legal visits or translations, form filling, complaints, neighbour relations, home management - you name it, if it's in Spanish, we can help. Twenty years in Jimena is their guarantee. (Commercial over, go to feria programme below)>

Jimena's first Doma Vaquera competition is scheduled for Sunday

Doma Vaquera is loosely translated as Spanish Dressage, we're told. However, the word vaquera is related to vaca, or cow, so we must assume that the kind of thing they do is linked in some manner to the way a horse is trained to deal with cattle. This is just a supposition and we would really appreciate it if someone who knows, can tell us how it differs from Dressage as we know it from the Olympics, say (we're not talking about standards here, just how it works). In any case, this year's May Fair in Jimena, features a Doma Vaquera competition, which is new. This is scheduled for Sunday at 1pm at the fairgrounds. But there's a lot more, which you can see on the full programme (presently under construction by TranslationHELP).

Feria de Mayo starts on Friday

Jimena's annual Feria de Mayo gets under way this year next Friday, starting at 7pm with the traditional cork loading contest. As usual, there are numerous activities involving animals through the weekend (mules, horses, dogs, donkeys and drunkards - oops!). It used to be called Feria de Ganado (Cattle Fair) and equines (you know, horses, mules and donkeys) feature prominently as buying and selling goes on, plus all kinds of horsey events as well (See full programme when we post it). Aside from the equine, there is also the canine (yes, dogs) with a very popular dog show on Sunday. But there's all sorts of things that you can see on the full programme below in Spanish that our friends at TranslationHELP will be putting into English as soon as possible.
