Pilates classes begin tomorrow at Casa Verde

Starting tomorrow, Thursday September 9, a course of the famous Pilates exercise system begins at 7pm, at the Casa Verde, on C/Sevilla just below Town Hall. Available for all levels and abilities, the first class is FREE! From them on, 5€ per session. Spanish conversation classes start today - but why bother?

You know more than you think!

Why study Spanish? If you speak Spanish, you can communicate with almost 500 million people worldwide. If you want to travel, a little knowledge of Spanish will go a long way. If you want to do more than just say "¡Buenos días!" to your neighbour or the girl in the supermarket, you can increase your vocabulary and knowledge, string words together more easily, getting it at least partly right - by joining our Spanish Conversation Classes for as little as €10 per week! Sign language lessons in progress

The Reina Sofia Cultural Centre in Los Angeles is hosting a free course in sign language offered by the UGT-FIES union and aimed particularly at interested workers in such areas as care services, social services, etc.. The classes, to Level 2, have been in progress since last week and are a total of 30 hours' duration, taking place in the evenings. Spanish sign language, we are told, is completely different to that in English - probably as different as the two spoken languages.

Municipal TaeKwonDo School begins on Monday

The Municipal TaeKwonDo School begins classes next Monday, according to the Council's Sports Department and the Lemus Han Club of La Línea, who are in charge of the service. Registration is still open (more info below) and classes will be given at the respective sports pavilions under the following schedule: Jimena: 5 to 6.30pm; San Pablo: 7 to 8.30. If you're interested, you are urged to register now: pick up and deliver forms at the Town Hall in Jimena (Calle Sevilla, 61. Tel. 956 640 254). Medals for little swimmers and fun for everyone else

This year's swimming programme came to a close this morning when the smallest got their medals. Before that it was the turn of the adults - mostly of the 'third age', to use a lovely Spanish euphemism for 'elderly' - who had taken aprt in the Sports & Health programme set up by the Junta. Over 300 people have taken part in some aspect of this programme, at Jimena, San Pablo and Estación. As for children, 240 of them were distributed among three different categories, plus that created for members of La Estrella handicapped association. The pools at Jimena and San Pablo offered a total of 13 daily schedules under the aegis of 3 monitor/teachers.

Jimena's Adult Education centre registration open for Spanish for Foreigners and more

Xemina, the adult education centre in Jimena that is the centre for the whole AE programme in the municipality, and Castellar, has opened its register for the 2010/2011 year. Among courses on offer are Graduado Escolar Secundaria for Adults, Basic Education, Initiation to Computing, English and Inter-Cultural Spanish for Foreigners. Register at the centre, Calle Sevilla 77, or call 956 641 196 for more information between 11am and 1pm. The centre's head, Ricardo Gómez, tells us that this year he would like to start an access to university groupfor over 25s, and hopes there might be enough people interested in the idea. The Xemina Adult Education Centre today opened their registration books for the 2010/2011 courses. Aside from other choices for Spanish speakers, there are also Inter-cultural Spanish Classes for Foreigners. Depending on the number registered, classes are organized in the morning or evening, in Jimena as well as in Castellar.
