Jimena's Historic Quarter to undergo renovations

The Historic Quarter of Jimena, known as Casco Histórico, is to undergo renovation. A new ‘technical office’ opened today on Calle Sevilla, where the radio station is and the library used to be. This office will take in request forms from home owners with limited financial resources and the need for repairs; and they will answer any questions and offer information as to what documents are needed to get on the list.>

In a report published in EuropaSur today, the Junta de Andalucía's Coordinator for the Rehabilitation Areas, Gabriel Almagro, said there were two options for Jimena and other similar villages: to get down to work on the recovery of its architectural and cultural heritage, as well as its socio-economic systems, or to allow its identity to decline with the massive influx of foreigners. (Prospero comment: Given the state of the village, and some streets in particular, not that long ago the 'influx of foreigners' can only have had a positive influence at least inasmuch as they have been 'obliged' to do things right, unlike most of the villagers, who did what they felt like and have never been called to task. As for the 'socio-economic' impact, foreigners have given more work to this village than anyone else over the years, though it is true that holiday homes left unoccupied for most of a year do nothing for the life of the village.)
